The most obvious place to start is with clutter. Clutter in a home increases feelings of stress. The first step to creating a relaxing environment is to control clutter. Can you imagine living in the home with the top photo shoving the papers out of the way and eating, or would you prefer to have the dining room in the photo below?
Spend fifteen minutes a day sorting and removing clutter until the job is done
Keep all pathways clear in and out of the room and avoid blocking windows
Colors in a room can have a dramatic effect on your mood
Keep Decorations simple in the dining room and kitchen, leaving room for function
One thing to consider as well is how many people generally eat at this table. Tall candleabras and floral arrangements as shown above are great for two people dining diagonally from one another but if you seated four people at the above table, they could not all see each other with the decor blocking their view. Choose flatter centerpieces, if any, when three or more people will be eating together.
