You've always heard that laughter is the best medicine. In fact, that was the topic of my very first blog post a little over two years ago. Laughter has numerous health benefits which cannot be ignored. Being too serious leads to several problems with dieting.
First we know that stress is a contributor to poor eating. It's also true that obsessive thinking leads to "all or nothing" thinking. If you cannot exercise for a week, you might not lose weight, but if you don't exercise and you completely take the week off from healthy eating, you'll do far more damage. Allowing the diet to eat YOU instead of simply determining what and when you eat, will also lead to the "take the holiday season off" mentality which causes the average american to gain weight which we never take off. According to the New England Journal of Medicine the weight gain isn't as much as the media makes it out to be, but it is the hardest pound to lose later on.
Health Benefits of Laughter
- Improves the immune system function
- Reduces perception of pain
- Releases endorphins which alleviate stress (and pain)
- Strengthens relationships
- Eases Anxiety and Fear
- Improves Mood
Laugh at yourself once in a while, we all make mistakes. When you make a mistake don't berate yourself, say "oops" and move on. You'll be happier for it, and stress never helped anyone lose weight.
