Every year so many of us decide to get organized, and then we don't it's time to stop wasting space. Clear spaces create a sense of calm. Clutter increases feelings of stress and anxiety. The single act of clearing some space in your home will make a big difference in how you feel.
The first step is of course, not to buy a bigger house, but to cut back on stuff. Which you can read about in my June post on this topic.
The next step is to find everything a home. This can be very overwhelming but start small.
For this week start with your favorite place to relax. If you're like most families you have "assigned seating" and your favorite chair to relax in. Clutter will accumulate around this area if you're not careful.
Today we're getting started with a simple task.
Next any tea cups or water tumblers go in the sink, obvious trash is thrown away, then you will sort, keep or give away. What you keep then needs to be evaluated how close to you do you keep it.
For me there is a bamboo charging station, it has to be kept on my end table, so I can charge my phone and kindle, even when not charging its' the perfect place to store the kindle so I don't have to look for it when I want to read. I do seem to accumulate paper in this area, so going paperless as much as possible is one goal, the second goal is to containerize my paper and then do a periodic purge. These are things such as checks, which I can deposit from my phone but then must keep for 15 days.
Watch for coming blog posts on how to organize your put away box. While I work on those -- Get sorting and purging and watch this space for more info coming very soon! When you get organized in a manner that is intuitive and easy to maintain -- your spaces can actually stay that way long-term so you only have to do the occasional purge!
