These are responsibly made. I have owned several of these, partially because my kids lost one or two, but also because I love them. These are stainless steel with no liner, so they are completely free of BPA and any other chemicals that could leach into the water. These come in stainless steel finish or in a variety of colors and the paint never chips. The bottle mouths are wide enough to clean easily and they have a variety of tops to choose from.

The newer sports cap does not make the noise the old one made, and is also does not seem to leak. It still has the warning and if you shake it upside down you could probably make a mess but in real use which includes throwing this in the pouch of a gym bag, I've had no problems at all.
They also have leak-proof loop caps, flat caps, and even a sippy cup top for little ones. All the lids they make seem to fit all the bottles. They also have an insulated bottle that you could use for hot drinks and a coffee-cup type lid as well. I find the insulated cups too small for water though and have another preference for travel mugs for coffee and tea.
I personally carry a 40 oz full of water with a loop cap in my backpack and then the 27 oz with sports cap in my hand, and refill from the 40 oz bottle. I like that I can drop this down a steep rocky incline and know it won't break. It's very durable. I soak mine in baking soda before 1st use and have never had any metallic taste. It's the only water bottle I use on a regular basis.
